Launch of IEMA Guidance on sustainability for NHS Non-Executive Directors (NED)
IEMA have launched a new report discusses the sustainability risks and challenges faced by the NHSTo implement sustainability across Trusts/Health Boards will require significant engagement from a range of roles throughout the NHS, with one key role being Non-Executive Directors (NEDs).
In their role, NEDs can have significant influence over the strategic direction of their Trust/Health Board and therefore will play a key role in the integration of sustainability.
However, our research and discussions within the NHS have revealed that, often, NEDs feel they do not have the knowledge or confidence to raise or challenge on sustainability within the NHS.
This report has been compiled by IEMA and Nature Positive, an RSK Group company. This report discusses the sustainability risks and challenges faced by the NHS and offers some practical guidance for Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) on how sustainability could be incorporated into their role.
This guidance document is a first step in supporting NEDs to understand the sustainability risks, challenges, and issues that face the NHS, and offers some practical guidance for Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) on how sustainability could be incorporated into their role. This document also provides tools to enable them to advise, challenge, and action sustainability within their Trust/ Health board.
